NRSWA Street Works Supervisor – Re-Assessment Training - Brookhouse Training Centre

This course is for Supervisors with existing NRSWA qualifications whose SWQA card has expired. New legislation came into effect on 6th April 2011 requiring all Street Works candidates to be reassessed before renewing their card.

COURSE SUMMARY:

BTC’s course includes training as it has become apparent candidates will find it hard to sit the Re-Assessment without some form of refresher training. As an example, we have devised the following example questions – if you can answer them without difficulty, we will be happy to accept you for an Assessment-Only course!

1. When laying AC 10 close surf, the Nominal Lift Thickness is 30 - 40 mm. What is the minimum allowable compacted layer thickness at any point?

a. 15 mm    b. 20 mm    c. 25 mm    d. 30 mm

2. Where a type "1" flexible carriageway with a Class "B" material backfill, what would be the total cavity depth provision remaining for subsequent layer constructions (but not including HRA Binder Course materials) where the sub-base will be unbound materials?

a. 370 mm    b. 420 mm    c. 450 mm    d. 520 mm

3. How many compaction passes, using a 65kg vibrotamper, are required for a sub-base 200 mm layer of CBGM B?

a. 4    b. 6    c. 8    d. NP

COURSE CONTENT:

The course consists of a 1-hour refresher training programme and an assessment exam on each of the Units within the Operator scope, namely:

  • Unit 001 - Location & avoidance of underground services
  • Unit 010 - Monitoring Signing, Lighting & Guarding. Co-ordination procedures & code of practice.
  • Unit 011 - Monitoring Excavation in the highway. Specifications, techniques, road types, materials
  • Unit 012 - Monitoring Reinstatement & compaction of backfill materials
  • Unit 013 - Monitoring Reinstatement of non-bituminous sub-base & road-base materials
  • Unit 014 - Monitoring Laying practices and reinstatement of cold lay bituminous materials. Specification & types of materials.
  • Unit 016 - Monitoring Reinstatement of modular surfaces & concrete footways


Each exam consists of a 30-minute question paper for each Unit.
