ILM Level 3 Award in First Line Management - Brookhouse Training Centre

The Award in First Line Management gives an introduction to the basic skills, knowledge and understanding required by today's first line manager. The mandatory unit in 'Solving Problems’ and ‘Making Decisions' is designed to develop practical techniques for tackling managerial problems and decisions.

£550 + VAT - (one day per week total 5 days)

 

Course facts:

This nationally-recognised award is designed primarily as development for first line management. It is delivered by experienced tutors who have themselves held management positions. Training is practical, participative and linked back to the workplace. Tutors explore the knowledge, skills and attitudes which are required for effective first line management and delegates undertake assessments to ensure that learning is transferred back into the workplace.

We are also able to deliver this programme in-house, with content tailored to suit your business needs.

At the end of this management training course, delegates will:

  • Planning and monitoring techniques
  • Methods to measure achievement of objectives

Organising and delegating

  • The importance of planning the team’s work to achieve objectives
  • Techniques for selecting the most appropriate individual to undertake an activity
  • Effective and efficient use of people’s knowledge and skills
  • Outline of the principles of human resource planning
  • Definitions of authority and power, responsibility and accountability
  • Concepts of delegation and empowerment
  • The process of delegation, including barriers and support mechanisms
  • Techniques to monitor outcomes of delegation
  • Feedback, recognition and reward techniques

Solving problems and making decisions

  • Simple ways to recognise, investigate and analyse problems
  • Brainstorming and creative thinking techniques
  • The difference between data and information
  • How to prepare and use different types of data
  • How to evaluate options
  • The importance of adequate and relevant information for effective decision making
  • Simple decision-making techniques
  • Effective presentation of a case
  • Monitoring and review techniques to evaluate outcomes

Additional content covered:

Assessment of delegates on this management training course is through short, reflective reviews and two work-based assignments. Tutorial support for these assignments is given during the programme, although the work is to be undertaken in the delegates’ own time.

Managers will also be expected to develop action logs to implement in the workplace and thus ensure that they transfer their learning back to the job role.
