ILM Level 2 Award in Team Leading - Brookhouse Training Centre

This is a concise qualification designed to give learners a basic knowledge of the various roles, functions and responsibilities of a team leader. There are no formal entry requirements but participants would normally be either practicing or aspiring team leaders or have a background which will enable them to benefit from the programme.

£250 + VAT (one day per week total 2 days)

 

Course facts:

Benchmarked to national standards, the ILM Level 2 Award in Team Leadership is designed primarily for developing team leaders. It is delivered by experienced tutors who have themselves held management positions. Training is practical, participative and linked back to the workplace. Tutors explore the knowledge, skills and attitudes that are required for effective team leadership.
By the end of the workshop, delegates will:

  • understand the skills needed to operate effectively as a team leader
  • be aware of the behaviours and attitudes necessary at this level
  • feel more confident to be able to undertake their role
  • be able to apply their learning in the workplace

Developing yourself as a team leader

  • The roles, functions and responsibilities of a team leader
  • Limits of authority and accountability
  • Personal skills and abilities for effective team leading
  • Using reflective learning skills to improve performance
  • Receiving and responding positively to feedback
  • Action planning techniques

Workplace communication

  • Stages in the communication process
  • Barriers to communication and how to overcome them
  • Advantages and disadvantages of a range of direct communication methods
  • Aspects of face-to-face communication (appearance, impact, body language, etc.)
  • The importance of keeping records of one-to-one oral communication

Motivating the work team to perform

  • Organisational employment policies (time-keeping, absenteeism, conduct, performance) in relation to team members' performance
  • Identifying under-performance and the extent of a team leader's authority
  • Interpersonal behaviour and its impact
  • Motivational models at work
  • Personal and organisational objectives
  • Use of feedback to optimise performance

Additional content covered

This training for team leaders requires delegates to carry out work-based assessments for each unit, in the form of reflective reviews. These are to be completed in the delegates' own time. Team leaders will also be expected to develop action logs to implement in the workplace helping ensure that they transfer their learning back to their job role.
