On completion of this course delegates will be able to,

  • Appreciate key legislative requirements in relation to their roles
  • Appreciate the role and responsibilities of the First Line Manager within the Company Safety Policy
  • Understand the requirements for the management of Health and Safety
  • Understand the principles of accident/incident causation and prevention
  • Undertake a safety audit within their area of responsibility.
  • Undertake risk assessments in relation to work activity within their area of responsibility.

What you will learn:

Introduction - Course objectives and arrangements. UK Accident record. Government initiatives.

Health and safety management - HSW 74 and MHWR 1999  - Principles of health and safety management.  Company Health and Safety policy - Rules and responsibilities. The role of the first line manager.

Legal Issues - The 6 pack and other regulations pertaining to individual managers environments. Discussion on main requirements.

Accident/incident causation - Some basic theory - Heinrich, Bird. The

And prevention - human factor. Acts, conditions and attitudes.  Accident/incident reporting and investigation

Safety Audit - The needs and main requirements checklist approach.

Risk Assessment - Principles and practice of undertaking risk assessments in the workplace.
